The life of mankind has undergone profound change since the development of computer and internet. Our lives have become more colorful and amusing. By virtue of the advance of information technology, we could chat with friends thousands miles apart through satellite link. The whole globe has become a small village. Still, by linking to the internet, we could gain access to a sea of knowledge. Nevertheless, what computer brings to us aren't all benefits. Video games, for example, are quite controversial among adults and teachers.
Some parents strictly prohibit video games at home, thinking that video games will only impede the healthy growth of their children. Indeed, many kids lose control and even quit from school after getting addicted to video games. Still, some video games are full of violence and porn contents. If young kids are getting absorbed in such video games, the healthy development of their psychology will be at stake. This is why parents become so vigilant and hostile to video games.
However, I think such attitude is too partial because video games also have their value to exist. For example, some video games like online basketball or car racing will help develop the kids' ability to react to changing situations. Still, video games also help cultivate the kids' imagination. But most importantly, playing video games is a good way for kids to escape temporarily from the pressure of study. You would feel like a master in the virtual world of video games and it feels great!
Therefore, video games aren't really good for nothing. Besides, I want to note that video games for kids developed by IT companies will not only lead the kids astray, but help develop their intelligence. I think this is good news for parents who emphasize early education because these video games for kids will fill the process with great fun.
As I see it, the right attitude isn't keep video games at bay. Instead, we should help kids strike a balance between entertainment and study. We have the duty to instruct our kids to select video games, help them control the time spent on them and tell them the way to make better use of the bountiful resources available on the internet. For example, we could work out a timetable and allow them to play video games only on weekends.
In doing so, we could prevent our kids getting addicted in video games and help them to devote energy and time to things that are really useful and beneficial to their growth.
